The church was built between 1783 and 1790 in the late Baroque style on the site of previous wooden churches and was intended as the regimental church of the Sumy Sloboda Cossack Regiment. During the Soviet period, the church was closed, used for economic purposes, and destroyed in 1932. The digitization aims to document its historical role, architectural value, and the loss of a cultural heritage site for future remembrance and restoration. The developed 3D model covers the terrain of the historical center of Sumy city, specifically within Pokrovska Square, considering available historical data and archival descriptions of historical monuments.","citation:dsDescriptionDate":"2025-11-02"},"subject":"Computer and Information Science","dateOfDeposit":"2025-11-02","citation:notesText":"According to the Contract no. 51.24.01-25/27.ZP-01 between Sumy State University and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, within the implementation of R&D project “Scientific Foundations of the Virtual Reconstruction of Destroyed Cultural Heritage Objects for the Recovery Strategy in Ukraine” (State registration no. 0125U000440), a 3D model of the Pokrovska Church was reconstructed in a virtual 3D environment as a destroyed object of the historical center of Sumy city from the beginning of the 20th century. The research utilized sources from the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Religions of Sumy Regional State Administration, the Sumy Regional Museum of Local Lore, as well as archival and library materials related to the development of the sacred architecture in the Sloboda region. The collected documents, drawings, and photographs highlight the history of the temple’s construction, operation, and subsequent destruction, which played a key role in the spiritual and cultural life of the Sumy regimental center. The Pokrovska Church was built between 1783 and 1790 on the site of a previous wooden structure, designed in the late Baroque style. It served as the regimental church of the Sumy Sloboda Cossack Regiment, later the hussar and dragoon regiments, and was an essential symbol of the city. During the Soviet period, the church experienced a gradual decline. In the 1920s, services ceased, and in 1932, the church was destroyed during an anti-religious campaign. The collected archival materials and the results of digitization enable the recreation of the original appearance of the church, including its spatial structure, decorative features, and urban environment. The project aims to virtually reconstruct a lost monument of sacred architecture and preserve its historical memory as an integral part of the cultural heritage of the Sumy region. The reconstruction of the object was realized using digital means for 3D modeling. During the modeling, the terrain of the historical center of Sumy city within Pokrovska Square was considered.","kindOfData":["digital photo","portable network graphics"],"title":"3D virtual reconstruction of the Pokrovska Church in Sumy city","citation:depositor":"Pavlenko, Ivan","language":"English","@id":"https://doi.org/10.48788/DVUA/O5IYYD","@type":["ore:Aggregation","schema:Dataset"],"schema:version":"1.0","schema:name":"3D virtual reconstruction of the Pokrovska Church in Sumy city","schema:dateModified":"2025-11-03 11:54:29.858","schema:datePublished":"2025-11-03","schema:creativeWorkStatus":"RELEASED","schema:license":"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0","dvcore:fileTermsOfAccess":{"dvcore:fileRequestAccess":true},"schema:includedInDataCatalog":"DataverseUA","schema:isPartOf":{"schema:name":"Sumy State University","@id":"https://opendata.nas.gov.ua/dataverse/sumdu","schema:description":"Sumy State University (SumDU) is a state-accredited higher education institution of a classical type.
