Information from archaeological sources, available expedition materials, scientific publications, and cartographic and archival sources were identified and systematized. Particular attention was paid to revealing the functional aspects of fortifications and their use as temporary storage facilities and administrative centers. This allows for digitizing the historical context of the destroyed objects and becoming aware of their role in the further post-war development of the Sumy region, Ukraine. Archival documents were digitized, which included scanning, photographing, and converting printed materials into digital format. This allowed for the creation of electronic data for further processing within virtual 3D reconstruction. The analysis of the materials confirmed the significant role of the fortifications and settlements of the Sumy region in the defense system of the Middle Ages and the Modern Age.
